The Hungry Brain is located at 2319 W. Belmont Ave.
2021 marks the 20th year that the Hungry Brain has presented Jazz and Improvised music. Musicians Mike Reed and Josh Berman began hosting the weekly Sunday Transmission concert series in January of 2001. Over the next two decades, the series served as a local incubating clubhouse for up-and-coming musicians. It has also become another anchor on the international stage for free-wheeling improvisers.
The list of acclaimed artists that have performed there is vast including Wadada Leo Smith, Fred Anderson, Connie Crothers, William Parker, Misha Mengelberg, Craig Taborn, Han Bennink, John Tchicai, Jeff Parker, Ken Vandermark, Nels Cline, to name just a few.
Since 2015 the music offering at the Hungry Brain has grown to also include early Jazz & Blues, electronic explorations, and forward-thinking singer-songwriters.
